About the festival

Deaf in the Picture 2011 will take place on Thursday 23rd until Sunday the 26th of June.
After succesful festivals in 2003 and 2007, this will be the third edition of the international deaf festival of and about deafs which takes place every four years.
Place to be: Bioscoop Het Ketelhuis which is situated in Cultuurpark Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam
Part of the programm, will possibly shown elsewhere in the country.
Traditionally, this festival is based on two different pillars, which is unique in our country.
Films which are made by deafs will show the everyday and imaginary world of deafs from a deaf perspective. This will most probably not be the case of films which are made about deafs.
These films are very often still made up by filmmakers who can hear.
Deaf in the Picture 2011 will pay much attention to the youth.
In the spring of 2011 a “out-of-school”-workshop will be offered for deaf youngsters in the age of 14-20 years in Amsterdam.
Whitin five days these young people will be offered every aspect of filmmaking and even make a film themselves.
A few foreign guestteachers will be invited.
The result of this workshop are to be seen during Deaf in the Picture 2011 under the heading “young Deaf Cinema”
