Young Deaf Cinema

Even more thoroughly than in the past, Deaf in the Picture 2011 will focus on young deaf people. We are eager for young deaf people to become actively familiar with the medium of film, precisely because that medium connects so well with their visual sign language and deaf culture.
In addition, in the spring of 2011, we shall organise film workshops at (primary) schools for the deaf. In addition, in early May, a workshop will be arranged with no school affiliation for young people between 14 and 20. In five days, these young people will be introduced to all aspects of film making and will also be able to make their own film. For this, several foreign guests lecturers will be brought in.

The results of all these workshops will be shown during Deaf in the Picture 2011 under the title Young Deaf Cinema.

In this program section, there will also be films for the young from France and the United Kingdom, among other countries. This is a result of an exchange project and cooperative venture we have set up with deaf film festivals in Wolverhampton (Deaffest) and Reims (Clin d’Oeil).
